Located in the north of the county, Avinyó is surrounded by the holm oak and pine woods characteristic of the Gavarresa valley, close to the lands of Lluçanès.

The eminently rural and peaceful environment of the town, however, does not hide the importance of its strategic location during the episodes of war. The Second Carlist War stands out, and specifically the Battle of Avinyó in 1848, an event that is commemorated every May at the Fira dels Matiners. (Early Risers’ Fair). In terms of heritage, Avinyó has buildings in a variety of styles, ranging from the Pont Vell to the Abadal Modernist Tower.
