The last stage of the Ignatian Way takes place in the Bages region. Stage 27 that begins in the square of the Abbey of Montserrat and continues along the Degotalls path. Ahead, a hike awaits us, mostly with a downward trend, passing by the monasteries of Santa Cecilia and San Esteve de Marganell, San Cristófol and Jaume de Castellbell and the town of Castellgalí. Here begins an ascending section that culminates in the Serra de Montlleó, and the terrain is smoothed to the Bodega Oller del Mas and reach Manresa. The “Cova de Sant Ignasi” will mark the end of the way.

The Ignatian Way recreates the itinerary that Ignasi de Loyola traveled in 1522, from Loyola (Azpeitia, Basque Country), his hometown, to Manresa, a city where he resided for 11 months before traveling to the Holy Land. Manresa has since become the key location in the life and work of the Saint. It is in this city where St. Ignatious, founder of the order of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), had the mystical and spiritual experiences to be inspired by the writing of his main work: the Spiritual Exercises. The route, now divided into 27 stages, runs for 650 km through five autonomous communities: the Basque Country, La Rioja, Navarra, Aragon and Catalonia.
