Ruta del romànic. X. L’Estany

19.1km – 315m des

The small town of L’Estany becomes a particularly beautiful complex, which has managed to preserve the Romanesque monastery and its surroundings. The monastery of Santa Maria de l’Estany is, without a doubt, the main building of this route, and the sculptural work of the capitals of the cloister is of great importance. Inside the church, perfectly preserved and restored, there is a carving of the Virgin of the Milk, from the 14th century. Close to the lake, there is Sant Jaume de Vilanova, which is a circular temple from the 11th century, one of the two round churches in the region. An interesting building is Sant Feliu de Terrassola which was restored and completed with the remains of the apses of the church of Sant Martí de Puig-ermengol. The church of Terrassola is part of the adjoining farmhouse, to the point that the original entrance is inside the house. The church bell tower is an ancient defense tower, which is said to communicate underground with the other side of the river and the valley.
