ON THE THIRD SATURDAY OF EVERY MONTH, VISITORS WILL BE ABLE TO BUY SEASONAL, LOCAL AND FAIR PRODUCTS, DIRECTLY FROM THE PRODUCERS.

On Saturday 18 May, Sant Fruitós de Bages will host the first Mercat de la Terra, a project promoted by the City Council in collaboration with the Slow Food community of Central Catalonia.

The Earth Market will be held under the Threshing Machine Cover on the third Saturday of every month, from 10am to 2pm, and will offer a wide range of stalls, from fruit and vegetables to artisanal products such as honey, cheeses, sausages and bread.

The farmers and producers of the area will be the ones who will sell directly to the visitors, thus offering the possibility of creating a community, exchanging recipes and sharing experiences related to healthy and sustainable food.

Each month the market will include different parallel activities. In the first edition of this Saturday, May 18, the morning will begin with a hearty breakfast and then it will be about the recovered cultivation of the white eggplant, where the recovery project will be explained, workshops will be held for the children to learn how to take care of this crop and seedlings of this vegetable will be distributed. The morning will end with a musical vermouth.

This market comes to the municipality with the intention of promoting the local and regional economy and promoting healthy eating habits among the residents and at the same time supporting local producers who sell seasonal products, grown with care and respect for the environment.

It's not just any market

This new market is part of an international network of markets that work in accordance with the principles of Slow Food and where the protagonists are small producers and food artisans. Good, clean and fair food can be found at the Mercat de la Terra stalls: the products are local, fresh and seasonal; they respect the environment and the work of the producers; they are offered at fair prices, for those who buy and for those who sell.

The Earth Markets project was born in 2004 and has already been implemented in 24 countries around the world. In Catalonia, the first to open was in the Tres Xemeneies park in Barcelona, and the one in Sant Fruitós de Bages will be the second.
