Balsareny Castle, declared a cultural asset of national interest in 1949, is without a doubt the most representative and emblematic monument of the town and one of the best known in the region.

It is a fortification dated 951 and a good example of a Catalan civil Gothic fortress. It is one of the few regular and homogeneous castles in central Catalonia because it was planned and built in a single construction campaign. Next to the castle is the Romanesque hermitage dating from the 12th century, where the Virgin of the Castle is venerated, whose feast is celebrated on 8 September. The castle and hermitage are privately owned, but they offer guided tours.

At the foot of the castle, on the river Llobregat, is the dam where the canal that supplies water to the city of Manresa is born, its reconstruction in 1583 generated a census that is still valid today.

During the Festa dels Traginers, the castle becomes a must-see, as it is on the way up to it where horse, mule, donkey and pony races take place.
