I – By the old medieval town of Manresa

Route 1.1 – 22.63km, 336m.

Apart from a small set of churches and civil constructions as well as the pre-Romanesque church of Matadars and the Romanesque church of the Comdals, the monumental city offers the visitor the discovery of the Regional Museum with an important archaeological collection and the Cave. of St. Ignatius, where St. Ignatius of Loyola wrote the book for Spiritual Exercises.

The Cathedral of Manresa, a magnificent 14th and 15th century building located on a hill overlooking the Cardener River, the Old Bridge and the Cave, becomes the most important building on the route. The building has the most remarkable features of Catalan Gothic with an exceptional width of the central nave and buttresses. The master builder was Berenguer de Montagut, who is also credited with the project for the church of Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona. Inside the Cathedral there is the Espai Oliba and artistic elements of great value, such as the altarpiece of the Holy Spirit, considered one of the best examples of Catalan Gothic painting.
